More Grand Prix for Me!

So I'm totally looking forward to being in Reading, PA this year for the start of the Grand Prix series, Skate America! But guess what...look out Quebec City...I'm going to Skate Canada too! Me and some friends decided to do a little road trip across the border and head north. I'm excited because I've never been to Quebec before...better brush up on my French!

Pic of the Week

When you think of great Olympic moments it is really hard to not remember this one. Gordeyeva and Grinkov were the 1988 Olympic Champions, they were arguably already among the greatest pair skaters of all time. You couldn't take your eye off of them and because of a weirdly placed Winter Olympics they got to skate for Olympic Gold again in 1994.

I will never forget that magical moment when the skated to "Moonlight Sonata." It was gorgeously choreographed by Marina Zoueva and based on Rodin's Sculptures. Truly one of the finest performances I've ever seen. It was an Olympic winning performace for the ages. And it didn't hurt the romantic mood that they were married.

This moment is bittersweet as the following year Sergei would die unexpectedly creating a great void in the figure skating community. But their legacy lives on through Katia and their beautiful performances which are simply timeless.

Pic of the Week

So this week we revisit the rather odd event that was the 2004 World Championship Ladies Free Skate.

It was really odd...A man runs out on the ice as Michelle Kwan prepares for her program, Robin Wagner attempts to put Sasha in "the Zone" for what will be another mistake-laden program, and Shizuka Arakawa, our "would be" Olympic Champion turns in one of my favorite performances of all time.

She hit 7 triples on her way to winning her first (and only) world title, a moment that would overwhelm her until she regained her championship form at the 2006 Winter Olympics!

Pic of the Week

Maybe on Wednesday's I'll post a pic to relive some of my favorite moments in figure skating. I must tell you this moment was extremely unexpected!

Kimmie Meissner had nothing to loose, and furthermore, Cohen had blown it in the free. In her first Senior World Championships, she wins it!

It was a pretty amazing performance to "The Queen of Sheeba" and I'm sure a performance she won't ever forget!
