Pic of the Week

This past week has been a sad one for the sports broadcasting community. Jim McKay, the renowned announcer for ABC's Wide World of Sports has passed away at the age of 86.

Jim McKay has covered virtually every televised sport, including figure skating, and is widely known for his Olympic broadcasting. His most important piece of broadcasting came at the 1972 Munich Olympics when Jim was the eyes and voice of the American coverage concerning the terrorist attack against the Israeli Olympic Team.

Jim has been at countless figure skating events over the decades and will be sadly missed. Most recently, NBC asked him to host their Olympic Moments segment at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Below is a video of Jim speaking with Scott Hamilton. Jim, we all miss you already...and because of you, we will always look towards sport for "the thrill of victory...and the agony of defeat."
