2008 Finlandia Trophy

The 2008 edition of the Finlandia Trophy is set to begin Thursday in Vantaa, Finland with a decent smattering of talent.

Sarah Meier looks to be the favorite amongst the women but two Finnish ladies, Laura Lepistö and Susanna Pöykiö, could be trouble. Also, I would never count out Elene Gedevanishvili.

Kevin Van Der Perren will square off against a couple of Russian men. Both Sergei Voronov and Andrei Lutai are slated to compete and have been steadily improving over time. Takahito Mura of Japan could also be a factor.

Should be a clean sweep of the Ice Dance competition for the British brother/sister team of Sinead and John Kerr. The Glasgow and Edinburgh Herald reports that the Kerr's are eager to show off their new dances for the 2008-2009 season.

The competition will go on without Finland's brightest skating star Kiira Korpi, who has withdrawn, she's dealing with a nasty illness that hasn't yet been diagnosed.
