The first major Senior ISU event takes place this week. The Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany is set to take place September 25th - September 27th.
This event tends to have what some may call "B" list competitors but this season there are some big names in attendance. The men's event is chock full of competitors including Kevin Van Der Perren, Tomas Verner, Andrei Griazev, and the competitive re-debut of Nobunari Oda. Carolina Kostner will headline the ladies event. In Pairs both Savchenko and Szolkowy and Mukhortova and Trankov are slated to compete. The Ice Dance is probably the weakest of the fields but offers Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates of the U.S. their first shot at a Senior ISU title. Other American competitors include Alissa Czisny, Chrissy Hughes, Dennis Phan, Scott Smith, Denney and Barrett, Yankowskas and Coughlin, and Summersett and Gilles.
Complete listing of competitors can be found here.
UPDATE: Apparently Kostner has withdrawn from the competition. Laura Lepisto of Finland is therefore probably the favorite...probably?
