Foreign Film in English

I have to thank State of the Skate for pointing me to this gem! "It's like a foreign film..." "In English." Doesn't that sum up Johnny perfectly?

Alright. Johnny can defend Evgeny all he wants.

But, I'm going to say it: how dare Johnny Weir defend the mullet? And get one himself?

It's a bit much for him to talk about men's figure skating progressing and evolving into the quad...

...when we all know that men's hairstyles have progressed and evolved beyond the mullet.

Evgeny is definitely not a bad person. You American's can bash Evgeny all you want. but all the other world except US youself no country agrees with you. Lysacek can't even be compared to him. Olympic skating Evegeny was better and gala performance too. Who can enjoy or mesmerized by Lysacek's skating? In my opinion, Lysacek is the worst male figure skater in the history. You American's can compliment Lysacek all you want.(which make you a total dumb country-- I mean you guys some have really great figure skaters(especially Johnny Weir(I mean look at his great skating)) but Lysacek's skating is definitely the worst and horrible skating of all the male skaters and of ALL HISTORY. Lysacek can't even be compared to Plushenko. I'm not a fan of Plushenko but I watch figure skating. and when you watch their skating, it's not even need to say who's skating is better and more deserve gold medal. I mean Lysacek? I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN THAT KIND OF HORRIBLE SKATING. He is definitly the embarassment of America. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against US.- I'm not lying. But bashing Plushenko and liking Lysacek...no other countries will agree with you because their skating can't even be compared. --I'm just saying it.

and I don't think It's a bit much for Johnny to talk about men's figure skating progressing. What is wrong with you? Why is it a bit much for Weir to talk about men's figure skating progressing?

how dare Johnny Weir defend the mullet?--?? what is wrong with you? Ice Mom?? what is dare?? who are you? Johnny's God?

I will say, how DARE can you(Ice Mom) say these things. That's just entertaining talk show. what is wrong with you?

You are so mean. After watching that talk show, all you say is that post? (how dare he can depend it, how dare he can talk about progress of figure skating? wow.... who do you think you are?

I mean you guys can bash Plusenko's interview but why bash his hair style? it's just culural thing. I'm not Russian.-i'm not lying. why bash his hair style? that's definitly self disgrace thing that bashing plushenko's hair style. because....- i'm sure you guy know the reasons.
I mean, what is problem with Johnny saying mullet? or depending mullet?

Thank god not all Americans are that mean or ignorant like Ice Mom but some are have understading or big heart or knowlegeble or have cultral view like Johnny Weir. He is definitely the proud of US unlike Lysacek(who is all about embarassing and cheating skating and jumps)

Well, your Highness, the thing is, Johnny Weir can talk about the evolution of men's figure skating all he wants because he is a FIGURE SKATER, not a hairstylist. Bashing him, or Plushenko for that matter, on the basis of his hairstyle, is as irrelevant as bashing any artist/dancer/athlete for having bad hair. It has nothing to do with the quality of their performance in their field/profession, and therefore fails as an argument.

P.S. I agree with the other anonymous fellow that Plushenko is definitely not a bad person.

Anonymous #1 - I feel your comments are little left field but need addressing. One, wasn't it Plushenko that was bashing Lysacek, not the other way around? Just brining the little detail to light. Two, while many in the world love and enjoy Plushenko's skating I am hard pressed to believe "everyone" outside the U.S. agrees with your opinion. Be careful to not state opinion as fact. Three, Lysacek is far from an embaressment, he's a Gold Medalist! Four, I think you complete misunderstood Ice Mom's sarcasm and humor, she was being lighthearted and you meanly attacked her...you should apologize. Five, if you are going to use such harsh words and criticism...identify yourself.

I think so many of you missed the boat on Ice Mom's Mullet comment!

Sarcasm is lost on some people.

In the U.S., the mullet is a dated hairstyle that has some cultural taboo associated with it. It's often generalized with people who are...less than genius and lead a particular lifestyle shall we say.

Ice Mom wasn't attacking anyone for their hairstyle, just having a little fun on an American theme.

It's an American thing, it's not a shot at Evgeny, lighten up!

Thank you very much, Aaron, for defending my mullet comment.

You're right: it was meant to be funny and to interject some humor into a heated quad/no quad debate.

I don't think it's that sarcasm is lost to some people, it's just that it simply doesn't come across very well on the internet. Just because someone doesn't understand sarcasm when it is used on the web, doesn't mean they wouldn't understand it if it was used in a real life context. I re-read Ice Mom's post, and I can see how she was trying to be humorous with her post, but at first glance it comes off as being really haughty (no offense meant, Ice Mom). I mean, I'm American, and I know what a mullet is, and like everyone else my soul cringes whenever I see one, but Ice Mom's post still initially came off in a bad way. Also, Anonymous #1's first language probably isn't English, therefore they might have misunderstood her even more. I have to admit that I misunderstood her humor as well, and I'm sorry.

"Five, if you are going to use such harsh words and criticism...identify yourself."

I have to respectfully disagree with this. Nobody should feel obligated to reveal their identity on the internet. People have a right to remain "anonymous" if they wish, no matter what they have to say.

Ice Mom, so much drama you've caused!

Being Australian, I have the unfortunate thing of coming from a country that embraces the mullet. The ultimate bogan symbol.

However, I must say I love Johnny Weir! He's outgoing, confident and doesn't give a fig what people think. He also comes across as incredibly nice, unlike many other skaters who did nothing but bash other skaters/judges/whoever. All the best to him!
