Fast Work

Caydee Denney and John Coughlin have teamed up to become the newest U.S. Pairs team.

I'm kind of excited about this pairing. For me, both were the "more" stable forces in their previous pairings (Caitlin Yankowskas and Jeremy Barrett) and I think have an opportunity to be an exciting pair with a strong technical foundation. I think they have the potential to create the same kind of energy that a team like Volosozhar and Trankov create...it's a great, powerful, exciting energy.

So Caydee has joined John in Colorado Springs and will train with Dalilah Sappenfield.

"We're excited to start this new chapter in our careers. The partnership felt right from the start, and we were immediately comfortable on the ice together," Denney and Coughlin said in the press release. "While we are grateful for the success we have enjoyed in the past, we look forward to the opportunity that lies ahead."

Oh the jigsaw that is American Pairs skating...

I think this is a step down for Coughlin, certainly artistically--Yankowskas has a great back and nice positioning; Denney always looks a bit "mushy" in position to me (and needs to learn how to point her toes--I know it's not easy in skates but other people manage)! Would love to see Yankowskas skate with Rockne Brubaker (yes, I know, he already has a partner...but that didn't seem to stop Coughlin...)

I apologize for my clumsy English- it is difficutl to express myself clearly...Yankowskas and Coughlin had that quality which one cannot learn- either it is given or not. They uplifted, inspired... in their skating there was a presence of human soul, a presence something more higher than medals or clean skate. Denney has a different personality, she never ever will be able to give that touch of mysterious beauty which comes so naturally to Yankowskas. I wish a good luck to Coughlin and Denney. I also would like to thank Yankowskas and Coughlin for being able to stand above everything insignificant during their skating, for being able to uplift and inspire. This is something which stays for ever ( for us). I wish to Denney and Coughlin all the best, and all the best to Yankowskas. Oh, such a split never ever would have happened in Eirope! You, Americans, are different!
