100.09

Here is Evgeny Plushenko's Short Program he performed today at the 2010 Russian National Figure Skating Championships. He scored 100.09. That is the highest total ever achieved by a male skater...nationally or internationally.

100.09...worth it? You tell me?

Definitely not!

considering the record of grand prix final men's short, this is a reasonable score.

Anonymous I don't by that at all! Takahashi, who had the highest scored SP at the GPF was leaps better than Plushenko was here and got eleven points less.

Plushenko wasn't even clean...the landing on his lutz is crap!!!!!

Totally agree, Aaron and Katrina! In addition, aside from the usual feelings I have with his armwork - er, I mean footwork - his spins were slow and nothing special (ah, Stephane, can't wait for your Olympic comeback).

"According to internal Russian rules" - on this competitions judges give a "bonus" points for jumps - Quad and Axel's ... In addition, Plushenko skate today with the injections, because of injury ;-(
He had a "bit of protection" for judges, as himself said on the press conference :-P

P.S.... do not be so nervous ;-)

That was definitely NOT a recording breaking skate, and for the record, out of all of the less artistic skaters, Plushenko is my favorite. There's something about him that pulls me in against my will. :/

Well, that's what the Russian did when they saw the inflated scores at Grand Prix final. They are saying we can give inflated score too! This definitely is not the best Plushy can do. He was not clean thus I can't see him getting over 100 for this program. But he did have a quad triple combo where none of the top three sp programs at Grand Prix final had. Takahashi did have a better footwork. So all in all, I would say Plushy should have gotten something about the same as Takahashi but not 10+ points better. If Takahashi skates clean and have quad triple, I definitely think Takahashi comes out on top. As for rest of the field... like Evan, we shall see if he has the guts and the goods to throw down quad triple in the short.

IIRC Nationals competitions in Russia gives extra points for landing difficult elements (the quad combination being the biggie here). And this is Nats - Mirai had an SP over 70 and Alissa a 110 with 3 triple jumps so I can't really fault Plushy for this. :/ At least this isn't an international competition.

ETA: anon beat me to it.

I don't fault Plushenko at all...he doesn't control what the judges do.

I thought they only got a 1 point bonus for doing a quad at Russian Nationals...what kind of bonus do they get now? +12 ?

The circle footwork sequence was excellent and deserved the points and levels. Big props for the quad-triple combo.

However, I don't think sloppy landings on lutzes and slow sit spins should equal 100.09 points bonus or not.

Hey "Anonymous," next time you can just post as the President of Plushy's fan club. Most of the national championship judging panels are guilty of boosting scores. That can't be compared to the Grand Prix scores because those are international judging panels no matter where the competion is held.

Can I take the honorary title of "President of Plushy's fan", although I'm not second "Anonymous", than the first? :-P

P.S. only cheerful - it was Christmas, and New Year coming... Happy Holidays! :-)
