Stand Up to Cancer!

Tonight, all the major networks will simultaneously air Stand Up to Cancer!

Stand Up To Cancer is a groundbreaking movement backed by an innovative approach to cancer research aimed at ending cancer’s reign as a leading cause of death.

As fans of figure skating, we know how important cancer research is as some of our beloved athletes have benefitted from that research. Peggy Fleming and Scott Hamilton can both tell you personally of the need to support this cause.

Also, tonight, Dorothy Hamil will share her story with America, as she began breast cancer treatment earlier this year.

Please take time to watch this star-studded, ground breaking event and if your pocketbook or wallet allows, please donate to this amazing cause.

Skating's hotties!

The Roundup this week over at Lifeskate (thank you Susan) had a wonderful little gem amongst its ranks.

Apparently Sports Crunch has listed (in their opinion) the top 10 hottest female athletes ever and two skaters made the list.

Peggy Fleming came in at number 10. They cited her using her good looks to finagle a job as a commentator (No...it couldn't possibly be that she was knowledgeable about skating!) for ABC sports.

And Katarina Witt came in at number 2! They noted that only two issues of Playboy have ever sold out, the inaugural issue featuring Marilyn Monroe, and the December 1998 issue featuring Katarina...wow, I didn't know that!

Just a little fun this Wednesday! I find myself wondering how much Google traffic I'll get for having the words hot female and Playboy in this post?

Pic of the Week: American Legends

Peggy Fleming is best known for her Gold Medal winning performance at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, France. Peggy's life, however, has been one of constant perseverance.

When Peggy was 12, her coach William Kipp, was lost in the infamous 1961 plane crash that killed the entire U.S. Figure Skating team as they traveled to the World Figure Skating Championships. As a result, she began working under the legendary Carlo Fassi.

Peggy's skating accomplishments are many including 5 National Titles, 3 World Titles, and of course the illustrious Olympic Gold. Upon retiring from competition, Peggy has toured and done many shows and joined the ABC Broadcast team as a figure skating commentator.

In 1998 Peggy Fleming was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was an early detection and Peggy underwent successful surgery. She continues to be an active supporter of women's health and breast cancer research. She and her husband Dr. Greg Jenkins own and operate a wine vineyard in California where the profits for a particular variety of wine, "Victories Rosé," go towards breast cancer research.
